Researcher – Advanced Metals and Metallurgy
Join Us in Shaping the Future of Metals for a Carbon-Neutral Footprint Metals World
At the Institute of Advanced Materials for Sustainable Manufacturing (IAMSM), we are pioneering next-generation metallic systems and sustainable manufacturing technologies that will define the materials of the future. Our mission is to accelerate the transition toward a carbon-neutral and circular economy through scientific excellence, innovation, and technology-based entrepreneurship.
We invite exceptional scientists and innovators with deep expertise in metallurgy, alloy design, and metallic systems engineering to join a dynamic research environment that integrates advanced characterization, multiscale modeling, and digital manufacturing. At IAMSM, you will collaborate with a diverse community of researchers driving breakthroughs in intelligent materials, hybrid composites, and sustainable process design.
Research Frontiers at IAMSM
• Advanced Metallic Systems Design. Development of lightweight, high-entropy, or multi-principal-element alloys with tunable mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties.
• Intelligent and Sustainable Metallurgy. Design of low-carbon metallurgical processes integrating clean energy, green solvents, and circular manufacturing approaches.
• Additive and Digital Metal Manufacturing – Integration of metal additive manufacturing (e.g., SLM, DED) with real-time sensing, machine learning, and process control.
• Microstructure–Property Optimization. Use of advanced characterization (SEM/EDS, XRD, EBSD, atom probe tomography) and computational modeling (FEM, CALPHAD, phase-field, and AI-based simulations).
• Recyclable and Functional Metals. Design of bio-inspired or magneto-functional metallic systems capable of self-adaptation, energy absorption, or multifunctional behavior.
Candidate Profile and Excellence Criteria
The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in Metallurgy, Materials Science and Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering, with demonstrated research leadership in metallic materials and manufacturing innovation.
We seek a visionary researcher capable of leading transformative projects that combine fundamental metallurgy, advanced characterization, and sustainable processing for next-generation metals.
Essential Qualifications:
• Internationally recognized research contributions in physical metallurgy, alloy design, or thermomechanical processing.
• Proven ability to develop and lead interdisciplinary research collaborations in academia or industry.
• Strong publication record (3–4 or more Scopus-indexed articles per year) reflecting scientific impact and originality.
• Expertise in numerical and analytical modeling of metallic systems, including Finite Element Methods, thermodynamic modeling (CALPHAD), or machine learning-assisted alloy design.
• Fluency in English (CEFR B2 or higher); Spanish is desirable but not required.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Hands-on experience with metal additive manufacturing, advanced forming, heat treatment, and surface engineering techniques.
• Research background in fatigue, corrosion, creep, or high-temperature deformation of metallic systems.
• Evidence of technology transfer, intellectual property creation, or industrial collaboration.
