The Institute for Obesity Research (IOR) at Tecnológico de Monterrey seeks outstanding candidates to lead independent and dynamic research programs in fields such as metabolic diseases, obesity, systems biology applied to biomedicine, cell biology, genomics, or any other area of biological sciences with a particular focus on addressing health challenges related to obesity and metabolic diseases. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. degree, demonstrate significant research achievements, present an innovative research plan, and exhibit a strong commitment to teaching for undergraduate and graduate students. Furthermore, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to fostering diversity and inclusivity in their research and teaching practices.

 

We are looking for researchers with notable academic output profiles for junior, associate, or full professor positions, depending on demonstrated level of experience. Applicants should specify in their cover letter whether they are applying for a junior, associate, or full professor position. We are particularly interested in candidates with extensive experience in applied, translational or clinical research who can collaborate with the hospitals of Tecnológico de Monterrey and foster collaboration with researchers within our Institute.

 

The IOR presents an exciting opportunity for faculty to develop and lead research activities to prevent and treat obesity and metabolic diseases in Mexican and Latin American populations. We are looking for professionals who can develop research related to Bioengineering and Medical Devices, including, but not limited to:

Bioengineering

Nanomedicine

Advanced healthcare materials

Drug delivery systems

Next generation diagnostics

Assessment platforms

Medical devices

Requirements

The ideal candidate must possess strong leadership, communication and networking skills, an extensive network of collaborators and stakeholders, and an enthusiasm to carry out promising and exciting investigations.

  • A substantial publication record in high-impact journals (Q1/Q2) for over the last five years
  • Advanced level in English language proficiency: CEFR level C1 or TOEFL 600 points.
  • A sufficient level of Spanish proficiency is desirable but not required
  • Member of the National System of CONAHCyT Researchers in Mexico or equivalent credentials
  • Proven experience in research funding acquisition, from either national or international funding sources
  • Preference will be given to people with outstanding leadership potential and commitment to developing an innovative research program to produce scientific impact, technology development, and opportunities to establish technology-based entrepreneurship

 

Expected results

  • Secure external research funds
  • Publication of articles in Q1-Q2 journals as PI
  • Participation as an advisor in the graduate programs of the Institute
  • Teaching 25% of the time in an academic school of the candidate’s discipline at the Tecnológico de Monterrey
  • Participation in national and international research networks and events

As part of its 2030 Vision, Tecnologico de Monterrey established the Institute for Obesity Research, with particular emphasis on Research, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship. Researchers in IOR work in different facilities and campuses within Tec de Monterrey System, which provides a platform for interdisciplinary research and access to research labs and diverse populations among Mexican States. Graduate students, postdocs, and PIs use the laboratory and research facilities across campuses, including genomics, metabolomics labs, animal facilities, experimental fields and greenhouses, computational resources, etc.
