The Obesity Research Institute was established to generate cutting-edge knowledge through scientific rigor and analysis, developing innovative ideas and solutions to address the problem of obesity via interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary work, and creating science- and technology-based enterprises to improve the health and well-being of individuals and society.

The ORI presents an exciting opportunity for faculty members to develop and lead research activities aimed at preventing and treating obesity and metabolic diseases in Mexican and Latin American populations, within Tecnológico de Monterrey and beyond. We are organized into five research units.

The Obesity Research Institute invites ambitious researchers at all career stages to apply for faculty positions in any of our units and to conduct world-class interdisciplinary research at Tecnológico de Monterrey.

 

Candidate Profile – Healthy Foods Track

 

Option 1 – Nutritional Biochemistry / Clinical Nutrition:
Degrees in medicine, nutrition, nutritional biochemistry, biosciences, endocrinology, neuroscience, neuropsychology, or behavioral sciences, with a Ph.D.

Option 2 – Molecular Biology / Bioinformatics with Clinical/Nutritional Experience:
A combination of degrees in biotechnology, bioinformatics, molecular biology, molecular microbiology, computational biology, food science, or nutrition, with a Ph.D.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • A substantial record of publications in high-impact journals (Q1/Q2) over the past five years.

  • Scopus h-index of at least 15.

  • Advanced English proficiency: C1 level (CEFR) or 600 TOEFL score. Spanish proficiency is desirable but not mandatory.

  • Membership in the Mexican National System of Researchers (SNI, CONAHCyT) or equivalent credentials.

  • Proven experience in securing research funding from national or international sources.

  • Preference will be given to candidates with outstanding leadership potential and commitment to developing an innovative research agenda that generates scientific impact, technological development, and opportunities to create technology-based enterprises.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and networking skills, a broad stakeholder network, and enthusiasm to take on ambitious and promising challenges.

 

Expected Outcomes

  • Secure external research funding.

  • Publish Q1–Q2 articles as principal investigator.

  • Serve as advisor in the institution’s graduate programs.

  • Dedicate 25% of time to teaching in the candidate’s academic discipline at Tecnológico de Monterrey.

  • Participate in national and international research networks and events.
