Research Professor - Institute for Advanced Science and Sustainable Manufacturing (IAMSM)

At the Institute of Advanced Materials for Sustainable Manufacturing (IAMSM), we are reimagining how materials and processes can power a carbon-neutral future. Our mission is to pioneer next-generation materials and manufacturing technologies that are intelligent, adaptive, and sustainable—bridging fundamental science with industrial impact.

We invite visionary researchers to join a dynamic, international environment where scientific discovery meets real-world application, and where creativity, technology, and entrepreneurship converge to shape the future of manufacturing.

Strategic Research Frontiers

• Sustainable Materials by Design. Creation of adaptive, low-carbon materials and composites using AI-assisted design and life-cycle engineering.

• Digital and Intelligent Manufacturing. Integration of robotics, advanced sensing, and data-driven optimization for next-generation manufacturing systems.

• Circular and Carbon-Neutral Production Processes. Novel manufacturing routes incorporating renewable energy, and closed-loop production.

• AI, Modeling, and Multiscale Simulation. Accelerating materials discovery through computational modeling, machine learning, and novel algorithms.

Candidate Profile and Excellence Criteria

The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline, with a strong record of scientific excellence and collaboration at the interface of materials, design, and sustainable manufacturing.

We are looking for research leaders capable of developing high-impact programs that integrate theory, simulation, and experimentation to address global challenges in manufacturing science.

Essential Qualifications:

Evidence of excellence in interdisciplinary research and teamwork across academia and industry.

• Strong publication record in peer-reviewed international journals (typically 3–4 or more Scopus-indexed papers per year).

• Expertise in numerical methods (Finite Element Methods), multiscale modeling, constitutive material design, and proficiency in simulation platforms such as MATLAB, Python, ANSYS, or equivalent.

• Fluent English communication skills (CEFR B2 or higher); Spanish is desirable but not mandatory.

Preferred Qualifications (Highly Valued):

Hands-on experience with metal additive manufacturing systems (e.g., Selective Laser Melting – SLM), machining, and metrology tools.

• Research background in machining dynamics, nonlinear and multiscale systems, modal analysis, or vibration analysis.

• Experience leading international collaborations, industry-funded R&D, postdoctoral programs, or technology-based entrepreneurship.

Why Join IAMSM

Global Impact. Work at the forefront of materials and manufacturing science addressing the world’s most pressing sustainability challenges.

• Collaborative Ecosystem. Engage with an interdisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs across the Tecnológico de Monterrey network.

• Research Infrastructure. Access to state-of-the-art laboratories for advanced manufacturing, materials characterization, and computational modeling.

• International Partnerships. Collaborate with global academic and industrial leaders through joint projects, mobility programs, and shared facilities.

• Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Support for patenting, startup incubation, and translational research aligned with the Institute’s sustainability mission.
