What will you do?

This position will contribute to the development of cutting-edge scientific knowledge through the production of prebiotics, their incorporation into food matrices, and the evaluation of their effect on gut microbiota via in vitro colonic fermentation using samples from adult donors with and without metabolic disorders.

The Postdoctoral Researcher will bring expertise in fermentation, metagenomic data analysis, and functional food development, strengthening the research group’s capacity to generate high-impact publications and competitive funding proposals.

 

How will you do it? 

Your main challenges will be:

  • Designing, executing, and optimizing fermentation processes to produce galacto-, fructo-, and pectin-oligosaccharides from agro-industrial residues.
  • Participating in the incorporation of these compounds into food matrices.
  • Coordinating and conducting in vitro colonic fermentation tests using microbiota from adult donors with metabolic conditions.
  • Implementing and carrying out analytical protocols using liquid and gas chromatography.
  • Supporting metagenomic data analysis.
  • Publishing results in scientific journals (Q1 or Q2).
  • Collaborating in the training and supervision of undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students.
  • Participating in the preparation of research proposals and partnerships with companies, government, and non-governmental organizations.

 

What are we looking for?

  • PhD in Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Microbiology, Food Science, or related fields.
  • At least 4 scientific publications in Q1 or Q2 journals.
  • Experience in microbial fermentation processes and functional food production.
  • Desirable: experience in clinical protocols and in vivo models.
  • Desirable: experience in metagenomic analysis and bioinformatics applied to gut microbiota.
  • Desirable: at least one research stay abroad.
  • Desirable: experience in multidisciplinary projects with industry or international research centers.
