Postdoctoral Researcher in Molecular and/or Synthetic Biology - IOR

The postdoctoral researcher will support the research work of the Institute for Obesity Research (IOR). They must execute projects, publish scientific articles in high-impact peer-reviewed journals, and ensure effective dissemination of the group's and institution's work through presentations at national and international conferences. Additionally, they will support undergraduate and graduate students, as well as professors and specialists. Participation in calls for funding for IOR research is also required.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in any of the fields related to medicine, biotechnology, molecular biology, or related sciences.
  • Preferably have completed a research stay or one-year postdoctoral position at a foreign university.
  • Full-time dedication to research activities and excellent command of English (both oral and written).
  • Demonstrate at least two years of research experience with scientific outputs (at least 3 articles in Q1 and Q2 journals, preferably in the last 2 years).
  • Experience in generating proposals for research funding in the context of national and/or international calls.
  • Willingness to relocate and work in Monterrey (where most activities will be conducted).
  • The candidate should have confirmed experience (through their scientific production) in at least three of the following areas:
    • Identification and characterization (biochemical and bioactivity in cell lines) of biological compounds (particularly proteins and peptides).
    • Synthetic biology (design of expression vectors, use of databases, microbiological handling, and use of laboratory-level bioreactors) for the heterologous production of bioactive proteins and peptides in microbial expression systems (mainly bacteria and yeasts).
    • Recovery and purification (downstream processing in general, biomass collection, tangential filtration, semi-preparative liquid chromatography, etc.) for the isolation of bioactive molecules, for their subsequent incorporation into medical formulations or as part of biomedical devices.
    • Material science, with an emphasis on the characterization and synthesis of nanoparticles and materials for the development of therapeutic formulations and biomedical devices.
    • In silico analysis and simulation (docking and molecular dynamics) for characterizing molecular interaction energies (protein-protein and protein-metabolite), with a focus on the rational design of improved bioactives through directed mutagenesis.

Activities:

  • Develop a specific research project.
  • Support the development of a new translational research line.
  • Assist in the training of undergraduate and/or master's students.
  • Support other research projects requiring their skills.
  • Assist in writing scientific articles and/or protocols to attract funding

Expected Results:

  • Publish at least one Q1/Q2 scientific article as the first author within a year.
  • Publish at least one Q1/Q2 article as a co-author, demonstrating participation in other research projects.
  • Generate material to write a research protocol to apply for funding.
  • Disseminate knowledge through the publication of articles, patents, training of human resources, etc.
  • Participate in national and international conferences to disseminate generated developments.
