Postdoctoral Researcher for Service Design Research in Health Contexts - Temporary
 

Currently, within the School of Architecture, Art and Design, we are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to partner with Faculty of Excellence and Tec Salud faculty on design for community health services.

A new initiative is opening to lead studies and design services and communications for enhancing primary care, prevention, and community health in Monterrey through the Tec Salud hospital system. The postdoctoral candidate will collaborate with clinicians, and team with EAAD professors and design students to create prototypes and study design interventions to improve health services and community population health, to reduce cardiovascular and metabolic disease outcomes in Mexican cities.

 

The candidate is expected to have deep understanding of design methodologies in health contexts, especially knowledge of service design and/or informatics and information design. Understanding of systemic design and health systems is desirable, but can be learned within the position as well. Experience or academic training in healthcare or a health profession. The ideal candidate would be a Ph.D. or physician with design discipline background, interested in co-developing new programs in health and healthcare design, studying with Distinguished Professor Peter Jones of the Faculty of Excellence.

 

The following other requirements are defined for the position:
 

  • Background: MDes level designer and/or doctorate in a health profession, or in community informatics or similar health experience. The proportion of training between health and design can vary, and will be considered for the fit of the candidate to the research initiatives.
  • Contingent on Tec Salud support at hospital locations in Monterrey, willingness to locate in Monterrey
  • Can assist in launching a Health Design Studio (design research lab) in an accessible location to engage the Tec Salud clinicians in healthcare innovation and community access
  • Commitment to collaborative research with clinicians, patients, and community members
  • Ability to manage and lead research projects and administration of research budget and documentation
  • One year base commitment, can be extended on request.

 

General responsibilities:

  • Carry out research with limited supervision leading to publication of 2-3 articles/year in high impact peer-reviewed journals (Q1-Q2), as well as presentations at national and international conferences, in collaboration with Dr. Jones and Tec Salud faculty.
  • Actively participate in research seminars and recognized conferences for research communication.
  • Assist faculty with training and design research capacity, particularly with graduate students and medical fellows.
  • Contribute to preparation or, when appropriate, lead research proposals for internal or external funding agencies.
  • Prepare written reports on progress of research work, ensuring that research data presented in these reports are in a publication quality format.
  • Interact with and contribute to network building with medical professionals and community stakeholders to foster collaborative partnerships and demonstrate active exploration and engagement in wider research connections in the university.
  • Actively participate in professional activities including consulting, workshops and executive education courses for external participants.
  • Carry out administrative activities and obligations primarily related to research area.
  • Assist in provision of leadership in the discipline and foster excellence in research.
