Postdoctoral Researcher at the Obesity Research Institute -Healthy Foods Unit

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join a multidisciplinary team focused on studying the impact of food prototypes and their metabolites on obesity, overweight, and metabolic syndrome, as well as their comorbidities, with the goal of raising the TRL of these products toward potentially patentable developments.

The candidate will work on research projects that integrate metabolomic and biochemical analytical data derived from raw materials, finished products, or biologically sourced compounds generated in in vitro and in vivo experimental models.

Keywords
Foods, metabolomics, biomarkers, metabolic syndrome, obesity, omics data, life sciences, translational research.

Candidate requirements

  • PhD obtained within the last 5 years in fields related to Biology, Biomedicine, Biochemistry, Food Sciences, Biotechnology, Analytical Chemistry or related areas, omics sciences, or related disciplines, with a specialization in Food Biotechnology and advanced analytical chemistry.

  • Preferable but not required: research stay at a foreign university or 1 year of postdoctoral work abroad.

  • Demonstrated research experience of at least two years through scientific outputs (minimum of 3 original first-author articles in Q1/Q2 journals, preferably within the last 2 years).

  • Experience in preparing proposals for research funding applications, in the context of national and international calls.

  • Proven experience in metabolomic data analysis. Required knowledge in handling analytical techniques such as HPLC/UPLC, gas chromatography, and/or mass spectrometry.

  • Preferable experience in handling biological samples derived from in vitro (mammalian cell culture) and in vivo experimentation (handling of laboratory rats and/or mice).

  • Preferable but not required: knowledge of bioinformatics and in silico studies.

  • Skills in statistical analysis and use of bioinformatics tools.

  • Scientific publications in indexed journals (first or co-author).

  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English (TOEFL >550 points, B2-C1).

  • Support in writing research proposals to attract external funding for industry-linked projects, with national or international agencies.

  • Presentation of results at national and international conferences.

  • Collaboration with researchers within the research team.

  • Responsible for administrative activities (project manager) and research activities (laboratory, data analysis, and article writing), supervising at least 3 graduate students per year.

  • Support in training undergraduate and graduate students.

Expected results

  • Publication of at least two Q1/Q2 scientific articles, preferably as first author, per year.

  • Generate materials to write at least 3 research protocols per year, enabling submission for funding in national and international calls.

  • Support and execution of experimental design and experiments associated with at least 2 research projects per year.

  • Follow-up and supervision of national and international research stays.

  • Supervision and support of at least 3 graduate students.

  • Support in organizing at least 1 national or international event per year related to the interests of the Healthy Foods Unit.
