Postdoctoral Researcher – Food Security & Nutrition Group

What will you do?
The successful candidate will be engaged to support the development of research in the areas of food process engineering, water activity, functional foods and the utilization of by-products, as well as to support the research work of undergraduate and postgraduate students linked to the aforementioned project. The candidate will be working in close collaboration with Dr. Jorge Welti-Chanes at the main project Food Security and Nutrition.
Your main challenges will be:
- Application of high hydrostatic pressures pulsed electric fields, and pulsed light for microbial and enzymatic inactivation, and structural and metabolic modification of plant tissues.
- Water activity, phase transitions, and moisture sorption isotherms.
- Extraction of high-value compounds from food industry byproducts.
- Mathematical modeling of food preservation and storage processes.
- The selected person is expected to support current research projects, which cover the aforementioned lines, and to develop, as coordinator and person in charge, a project for which external funding is sought and obtained.
What are we looking for?
- PhD in Biotechnology, Food Science, Food Engineering, Chemical Engineering.
- Strong scientific production (JCR Journals and/or international conferences).
- Experience in generating research proposals for fundraising.
- Excellent oral and writing skills in English.
- Experience in analytical and instrumental techniques for chemical, physicochemical characterization and transport properties of food products
- Ability to develop mathematical, statistical and computational analysis of experimental data.
- Ability to coordinate experimental work of undergraduate and graduate students.
