Professor-Fellow in Urban Economics - Center for the Future of Cities
Tecnológico de Monterrey, through the Center for the Future of Cities (CFC), invites applications for a Professor-Fellow position in Urban Economics. We seek outstanding candidates at the posdoctoral, early career faculty, or advanced doctoral stage with a strong interest in applied, policy-relevant urban economic research in Latin America.
This position aims to strengthen applied, policy-relevant research in Mexico at the intersection of urban economics, land use and public policy, with a particular focus on Mexican Cities. Key areas of interest include:
- Affordable housing models
- Impacts of land-use regulation on housing costs
- Infrastructure costs associated with different urban form configurations
- Property tax
- Effects of transportation systems on land values
- Fiscal impacts of urban sprawl
- Spatial and General Equilibrium Models for land, zoning and taxes
The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary research group working at the frontier of urban science, combining economic theory, advanced empirical methods, and computational modeling. The position offers a unique opportunity to work with rich administrative, geospatial, and mobility datasets, as well as to engage directly with policy processes and real-world urban challenges.
Candidates are expected to have strong quantitative training and demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas: urban economics, spatial analysis, econometrics, or general equilibrium modeling. A strong publication pipeline or clear potential for high-impact academic publishing is highly valued.
The selected candidate will have the opportunity to develop an independent research agenda, while also contributing to the broader research program of the Center for the Future of Cities in the areas described above. The position involves collaboration on large-scale applied projects, as well as contributions to both academic publications and policy-oriented outputs. Teaching responsibilities may be included depending on the candidate’s profile and interests and will be held in the department of economics.
We will consider candidates who will complete their Ph.D. by September 2026, as well as postdoctoral researchers and early-career faculty seeking a dynamic research environment.
Compensation is competitive and includes research support, access to computing infrastructure in the cloud, and opportunities for international collaboration.
