Post-Doc Position in Contaminant Transport, Modeling and Remediation 


We are looking for an outstanding candidate for a post-doctoral fellow to perform laboratory and field characterization of fate and transport of contaminants under a wide range of potential hydrogeologic conditions (e.g., porous media, saturated or unsaturated media, various geochemical environments) with exceptional modeling skills. The candidate also needs to be expert in designing the remediation studies for variety of legacy to the emerging contaminants. The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team to examine the fate, transport, and remediation approaches of the contaminants and to translate the knowledge gained into process models that can be incorporated into state-of-the-art contaminant transport and risk assessment models.


If you have the next qualifications:

•       A Ph.D. in geochemistry, chemical or environmental engineering, environmental chemistry, hydrogeology, or closely related fields, has an open mind to develop new ideas and is eager to collaborate with the project partners. The following qualifications are considered as an advantage:

•       Experience in conducting field and/or laboratory scale experiments to interrogate contaminant transport processes and/or reactive transport characteristics of aquifers.

•       Experience with micro- or nano-scale characterizations of contaminants speciation with modeling approach.

•       Experience with environmental water contaminant remediation by designing of the novel porous materials.

•       Experience in working with chemical analytical instrumentation, and experience in geology, hydrology, or analytical chemistry

•       Applicants should have strong written and oral communication skills demonstrated through publications in respected international journals and presentations at international conferences.

•       Developing and writing project proposals.



•       Strong attention to detail and writing, editing and proofreading skills to produce complex technical and non-technical material quickly and accurately for audiences of varying backgrounds.

•       Professional demeanor with interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively and diplomatically with university staff and external partners, and people from diverse ethnic, economic and cultural backgrounds.

•       Experience applying critical thinking and good engineering judgment to ascertain relevant from irrelevant data and separate vital factors from less important ones.

•       Ability to learn new technologies and develop new skills to meet research challenges and promote professional growth.

•       Skills to work collaboratively in a complex, fast-paced research and development environment.

•       Work experience performing engineering design and/or technical calculations.

•       Experience with general-purpose programming languages for business software development (e.g. C++, Java, or C#) and groundwater software (ModFlow or equivalent)

•       Data analysis experience with structured and unstructured data sources (particularly with large data sets).

•       Published research that utilized multi-isotope tracers and probabilistic models for tracking contaminants.
