IAMSM Postdoctoral position

The Institute of Advanced Materials for Sustainable Manufacturing (https://tec.mx/en/institute-advanced-materials-sustainable-manufacturing) has been created to research, innovate, and foster science and technological entrepreneurship in developing advanced materials and creating sustainable manufacturing processes with the potential to impact industrial transformation and to contribute to a carbon-neutral economy. The institute focuses on three main challenges:

  1. To advance original state-of-the-art science created for developing novel materials or devices and their associated sustainable manufacturing technologies evidencing the latest trends and fulfilling society's present and future needs.
  2. Design advanced materials for different applications to contribute to a net-zero emission and zero carbon footprint.
  3. Create and develop high-tech manufacturing processes to accelerate and rapidly scale up the production of advanced materials with minimum environmental impact.

The IAMSM invites researchers with expertise in additive manufacturing, machining dynamics, and the integration of advanced manufacturing technologies to apply for a postdoctoral position focused on hybrid manufacturing. The selected candidate will conduct world-class interdisciplinary research to develop and optimize SLM-based additive manufacturing strategies combined with high-precision machining for the fabrication of high-added value aeronautical components. This position is a one-year contract (renewable for one additional year in case of outstanding performance). Part of the position’s responsibility may include, under special conditions, assisting the supervisor in teaching-related activities, not exceeding 25% of the time.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary research environments.
  • Proficiency in English at a B2 level or higher according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Spanish proficiency is desirable but not mandatory.
  • A minimum of two scientific journal publications indexed in Scopus.
  • Expertise in numerical and mathematical modeling and simulation tools such as MATLAB, Python, ANSYS, or equivalent platforms.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience with metal additive manufacturing systems (e.g., Selective Laser Melting - SLM), machining, and metrology tools.
  • Background in machining dynamics, modal analysis, or vibration analysis.
  • Experience in international research collaborations, industry-funded R&D projects, or prior postdoctoral appointments.
