Investigador(a) PostDoc IOR Institucional

Being part of Tecnológico de Monterrey means having the opportunity to collaborate within a community focused on education, innovation, research, and excellence to positively transform our environment. Here, you can develop your talent and pursue a meaningful purpose: imagining, creating, and building solutions that positively impact people and communities.

This opportunity is for you!

Join Tec and help shape the future with us.

What will you do?

As a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute for Obesity Research at Tecnológico de Monterrey, your main challenge will be to integrate single-nucleus RNA sequencing data from skeletal muscle with genetic information and metabolic traits from the Mexican population to identify the cellular and genetic factors that influence muscle mass and metabolic health.

The project aims to better understand individual differences in muscle mass and the muscle's capacity for regeneration and adaptation, as well as their relationship with conditions such as sarcopenia, sarcopenic obesity, frailty, and insulin resistance. Special attention will be given to populations that have been underrepresented in genomic research.

How will you do it?

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Identify gene activity programs specific to different cell types in human skeletal muscle, both during regeneration and under normal homeostatic conditions.

  • Generate detailed maps of gene activity in skeletal muscle using single-nucleus RNA sequencing techniques and samples from Mexican participants with diverse metabolic characteristics.

  • Integrate cellular gene activity results with large-scale genetic information to investigate factors associated with muscle mass-related traits.

  • Analyze genomic, molecular, and metabolic data from Mexican cohorts, including oriGen and MetSx, to better understand the relationships between genetic variation, muscle cell composition, and metabolic health.

  • Contribute to identifying potential cellular and molecular targets for subsequent functional validation experiments.

  • Collaborate with national and international research teams on project development, scientific research, and the preparation of publications in high-impact journals.

What are we looking for?

If you hold a Ph.D. in a field related to human genetics, statistics, computational biology, genomics, bioinformatics, muscle biology, or metabolic biology; are interested in studying the cellular and genetic mechanisms underlying muscle mass and metabolic health; and have programming and data analysis skills, we encourage you to apply!

Experience in the following areas is particularly desirable:

  • Single-nucleus RNA sequencing (snRNA-seq) data analysis and genome-wide association studies (GWAS).

  • Analysis of large genomic, molecular, and phenotypic datasets.

  • Programming and data analysis using R or Python.
